What happens naturally…

There are many styles of photography out there to choose from depending on what you prefer. What I love is capturing what happens naturally. You can’t plan it. You can try to coax it, but you just hope that everything is in place when it does happen. When working with children this is one of the most important elements. Of course I have to know my cameras inside and out, backwards and forwards so that I am prepared. I have to know where the best light is or help create it. I have to know what settings will work best for kids jumping up and down and laughing. My memory cards must be ready, battery charged, my energy levels ready and most importantly….I have to be ready to focus and fire right when it happens. It all seems easy enough, right? Well, the one element I can’t control is the most important one and that is my subjects. I can finess the situation. I can use a soothing voice and try to control the moods (I hear you mother’s chuckling right now), but a moment like a 3 year old big sister choosing to kiss her baby brother and him giggling in anticipation and execution is one of those priceless moments that I have to be anticipating and reacting to because it’s most likely not going to just ‘happen’ again.

I was actually just photographing him, but she jumped in and started creating a moment – so I went with it…

He’s wondering what she’s going to do, because you know at this age he thinks the sun rises and sets with her…

I love his body language as she goes in for the kiss while giggling…

My favorite image is the moment after….pure joy!

I hope everyone is adjust to the New Year well! I am settling back into the grind with some new tools that have really helped my workflow improve.

I’m excited for what is to come in 2010! I’m so excited that I will be offering a special for sessions booked in January that can be used any time in 2010! I will be announcing a prize drawing that will be included for the clients that book those sessions! This will be available for clients outside of Maine. I will be doing some traveling this year (definitely to Indiana and possibily some other locations) so if you are unsure, please sent me an email and I’ll let you know if your location is one I am planning. Look for that post in the next few days!

Much Love,

Shannon
