I love January because I love meeting brides and grooms for the year to come. This seems to be the month that I hear from most of my brides and grooms. The excitement of their upcoming wedding is intoxicating. I love hearing about the details and plans they are putting together. It is definitely one of the perks of being a wedding photographer. What other job allows you to get to spend time with people on one of the most important days of their life?

Looking forward to the brides and grooms of 2010! I’m already so excited about the couples that have booked their weddings with me. I look forward to meeting the rest of you! I know it’s going to be a great year!
Much Love,
Shannon
There are many styles of photography out there to choose from depending on what you prefer. What I love is capturing what happens naturally. You can’t plan it. You can try to coax it, but you just hope that everything is in place when it does happen. When working with children this is one of the most important elements. Of course I have to know my cameras inside and out, backwards and forwards so that I am prepared. I have to know where the best light is or help create it. I have to know what settings will work best for kids jumping up and down and laughing. My memory cards must be ready, battery charged, my energy levels ready and most importantly….I have to be ready to focus and fire right when it happens. It all seems easy enough, right? Well, the one element I can’t control is the most important one and that is my subjects. I can finess the situation. I can use a soothing voice and try to control the moods (I hear you mother’s chuckling right now), but a moment like a 3 year old big sister choosing to kiss her baby brother and him giggling in anticipation and execution is one of those priceless moments that I have to be anticipating and reacting to because it’s most likely not going to just ‘happen’ again.

I was actually just photographing him, but she jumped in and started creating a moment – so I went with it…

He’s wondering what she’s going to do, because you know at this age he thinks the sun rises and sets with her…

I love his body language as she goes in for the kiss while giggling…

My favorite image is the moment after….pure joy!
I hope everyone is adjust to the New Year well! I am settling back into the grind with some new tools that have really helped my workflow improve.
I’m excited for what is to come in 2010! I’m so excited that I will be offering a special for sessions booked in January that can be used any time in 2010! I will be announcing a prize drawing that will be included for the clients that book those sessions! This will be available for clients outside of Maine. I will be doing some traveling this year (definitely to Indiana and possibily some other locations) so if you are unsure, please sent me an email and I’ll let you know if your location is one I am planning. Look for that post in the next few days!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I just returned from my trip to the midwest to see family and friends. It was a rare opportunity to be away from my computer for almost two weeks! I am definitely looking forward to new projects and ideas I have for 2010! I am already excited for the great brides and grooms who have booked me for their weddings this year! I look forward to meeting more of you and hearing about your amazing details you are planning! I also look forward to new births, birthdays, anniversaries and milestones to capture.
This is an image of my sweet nephew who is just sixteen months old. It was so nice to spend time with him as well as the rest of my family in Indiana and Illinois. More to come of his big sister soon!

What is fun about this second image is that he is playing ‘daredevil’ standing on a stool and my sister is close by spotting him (as well as myself who would have dropped my camera to grab him without thought). So he’s sporting this proud look at this accomplishment. I love it!

In Maine we’re currently getting 10-20 inches of snow. I hope everyone is tucked in with some good company and food while enjoying the warmth! Look to the blog soon as I will be posting some New Year’s specials in honor of 2010!

Just a reminder to my Indiana friends and clients (and new ones!) that I am going to be in town for Christmas and will have availability for a limited number of sessions. These sessions would be in the Indianapolis or Anderson vicinity. I will also be in Illinois (Mattoon area) for some of that time if anyone close to that area is interested in a session. Please contact me by calling 207-329-2001 or sending me an email through my website for details and availability. Thanks!
And because a blog entry is just better with images attached, here are a few recent images of my youngest daughter.

I hope everyone is geared up for the holidays and spending it with people you love! I have been so blessed this year with wonderful clients! I am so excited for what 2010 will bring and for the great brides and grooms who have already booked me for their 2010 weddings! I am looking forward to seeing my newborn clients take their first steps and the little ones hitting other new milestones that I hope to record for them. Look back to the blog in the next few weeks to see more updated wedding images from 2009!

What a fun session! This kids were fabulous, Mom was fabulous, all the planets were aligned…it was just a great day! I just loved the energy of the whole session.
I was going to just put one photo up on the sneak peek and get back to the rest of my work, but I couldn’t do it. I am sure you will see more of this session in the future.

This was actually at the end of the session (I had already started packing up) and the two older kids were rolling the umbrellas in front of them to block me (or shelter their little sister) and then would roll them back to their sides basically playing peek a boo with the camera…I love seeing what kids will do with their imaginations and a simple prop.

Another image choreographed by these fun siblings! I love that the older brother was not shy to grab one of the parasols as I was getting ready to photograph the older sister with one and did his own thing. There are some other great ones that I’ll have to share later showing more of his creativity. Doesn’t big sister have the sweetest look with her missing tooth?

Isn’t this antique high chair great? I can’t get over how well this one year old did for the session! She was such a delight! And the curls….love them!

This was fun! I loved that the kids (and Mom – thank you!) were up for anything I wanted to try.

I just have to say that I loved Meg (Mom) and her husband’s style! As soon as I walked into the house I knew it was going to be a great session. She was relaxed, the kids were polite and the energy just felt calm. It is such a win-win situation when I bring my studio to a client’s house. They have all the comforts of home, while I have the ability to capture them in their natural environment. It makes me think back to how I would love to see photos like this of me and my sisters in our house we grew up in.
As Meg heard me gush over and over again, the wall paper was probably one of my favorite things, but really I loved all the details she had incorporated into her decorating. She has three young children, works outside the home and still has a stylishly decorated home. Meg, you put me to shame!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to capture your beautiful children!
How is everyone doing with their Christmas shopping? Less than two weeks to go!!
Much Love,
Shannon
Meet adorable Miss Ruby! Another sweet little baby girl that I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph recently.
I love this image of Ruby over Mom’s shoulder. The whole family has such beautiful eyes!

I believe Grandpa may have helped her achieve this smile.

Of course I’m always a sucker for a few serious faces…especially the little ones who are trying to figure me out.

More to come! Happy December everyone!
Much Love,
Shannon
